Full-Stack Software Engineer & Solutions Architect

I design, build and run multi-tenant SaaS platforms for regulated data — and the AWS infrastructure they run on. AI-assisted development is my default workflow, not an experiment.

About

My journey

I've been shipping software for about twenty years. I started out on my own — building, selling and supporting an events product with online ticketing and payments — then spent agency years on a high-traffic news API and e-commerce storefronts. Since 2013 I've been at Optania, technical lead and solution architect across the company's products: backends built from scratch in Laravel, single-page apps in React and TypeScript, and the AWS infrastructure underneath it all.

My years at Optania taught me what a greenfield project never could: what a long-lived application really costs — and how to keep that cost under control. On a ten-plus-year codebase, speed is something you maintain: framework and stack upgrades done continuously instead of as catch-up projects, a test suite that makes every refactor safe, static analysis that keeps debt from settling in. That's what has let us keep the stack current — and keep shipping fast, more than a decade in.

The other half of my work is speed. I use AI-assisted tooling as my default workflow — not to write code I don't understand, but to compress the distance between an idea and a working system. The products I've shipped on my own — Zelbee on the App Store and LOAMAP — are what that looks like in practice.

Everything I run holds regulated data — clinical records, student records — so privacy and security come before features.

What drives me

  • Problems I haven't solved before. That's where I do my best work — and I'm always up for a new one.
  • Systems people depend on: multi-tenant platforms, regulated data, software where correctness isn't optional.
  • Compressing the distance between an idea and something running — AI-assisted workflows, twenty years of judgment.
  • Shipping. A product in users' hands beats a perfect plan every time.
  • Passing it on. Mentoring teammates into new skills and technologies is part of how I lead.

Hands in the dirt

Since 2022 I've served on the board of Vélo Saguenay, and since 2025 on the board of Mont Bélu — two organizations behind the region's mountain biking and its winter ski and snowboard operations. I've been volunteering for years, and I like getting my hands dirty as much as sitting at the table: trail building, maintenance days, on-the-ground operations. Designing a trail that drains well and ages well is surprisingly close to designing software that lasts.

How I work

“Optimize for what code costs to live with, not how fast you can write it. Use AI to move at the speed of an idea — and twenty years of judgment to decide which ideas deserve it. Treat privacy and security as the ground you build on, not features you add later.”

Highlights

Ground up

AWS infrastructure

The entire estate behind Optania's products — auto-scaling ECS, load balancing, AWS Backup in compliance mode, infrastructure as code with CloudFormation — designed, automated and operated practically alone.

Zero downtime

Continuous delivery

Built the entire delivery pipeline: CircleCI through to auto-scaling AWS ECS, containerized, with releases that never take the platform down.

Since 2015

Platform stewardship

Lead contributor on the API behind Psylio — clinical records, scheduling and billing for health and education professionals across Québec.

End to end

DevOps & quality ownership

The CI/CD pipeline the team ships through: continuous deployment, automated code review, static analysis with PHPStan and CodeSniffer, and a containerized development environment.

In the wild

AI in production

Built a psychosocial-support chatbot, contributed to Ali — Optania's AI assistant for Québec college students — and co-designed a serverless AI pipeline on AWS Step Functions with Optania's AI team.

Solo

Shipping instinct

Products shipped on my own outside work — Zelbee on the App Store and LOAMAP — from idea to users, no team.

Things I build for fun

LOAMAP

Shipped

Gives outdoor recreation centres a branded, official interactive map of their trails. Visitors scan a QR code and get offline GPS navigation — no app, no account — with difficulty, distance, elevation, points of interest, emergency exits and obstacle reporting.

Next.jsTypeScriptMapLibre GLPWA / OfflineQR Code

Zelbee

Shipped

iOS app that makes waste-collection schedules simple and reliable: a reminder the evening before, another to bring the bins back in, Home Screen widgets, calendar sync and multiple addresses. Local-first — data stays on the device.

Repos & experiments

api-response

PHP package for consistent API responses, built on Fractal, for Laravel and Lumen. Over a million downloads, taken to a stable 1.0.

InboxInsights

Mood analytics where email is the interface: daily entries arrive by email and GPT-4 turns them into wellness dashboards. Built for a dev.to challenge.

HomeWise AI

Turns a Zillow URL into a full property report with market insights and financial projections. Built for a dev.to challenge.

MTB Trail Building

Knowledge hub for mountain-bike trail building: tutorials, sustainable trail design, drainage solutions and tool guides.

Vélo Saguenay

Website for the regional mountain-bike non-profit — trail networks, volunteering and community info. I also serve on the board.
